There will be a reception following the Evensong. This particular festival honoring all the saints, not only the ones with special days set aside for them on the calendar, was also known as All Hallows. In the British Isles it became the popular habit to set aside the evening before, known as All Hallows' Eve and later as Hallowe'en, for wearing costumes or masks, visiting from house to house, and giving and receiving treats of food or drink. But this was all in preparation for the solemn festivities in church the next day. Choral Evensong, which has been described as the gem of the Anglican liturgy, a description which encompasses not only the Church of England but also the Episcopal Church in America. It consists of Psalms, prayers, and songs, all either chanted or sung. The choir of St. Saviour's is led for this service by its Organist and Music-Director, Dr. Daniel Pyle. Confidential Prayer Chain: Unlike our published prayer lists, prayer requests that come into the Prayer Chain remain private to the prayer chain itself, which will pray devotedly for one week unless an updated request is made. If you'd like to know more about this or our Pastoral Care Team, please contact our office administrators. | | Community: The Alcyon Center is a place of contemplation and peace, offering a variety of programs including quiet days, a gathering of women to discuss various topics through poetry, personal experiences (Soul Friends), a monthly quiet day and a weekly study of the Gospel for the coming Sunday.
