UPCOMING Westside Food Pantry Recitals
Princeton, NJ harpsichordist, Gavin Black returns to St John for his recital Friday, July 29th at 7:00.  Gavin will play Bach's French Overture BWV 831.  This is Bach's longest harpsichord piece.  Gavin describes it as "very charismatic, colorful and interesting".
The Schoodic Summer Chorus will perform on Monday, August 7th at 6:30 p.m.
Islesford native, pianist, Christina Spurling joins violinist Yi-Li Change for a performance of sonatas for piano and violin by Beethoven, Debussy and Brahms.  Last summer, Christina performed with three vocalists. Their performance is Saturday, August 26th at 8:00.
Suggested donation for each performance is $10—ALL proceeds go to the food pantry

at St. Saviour:

Strawberry Shortcake and Yard Sale for Kid's Care Free Meal Program on Saturday, July 29 from 9:00-1:00.

Summer Organ Series will be held on Fridays in August from 12:15-1:00.  The church features a 27-rank Visser-Rowland tracker organ which is used in worship services each week as well as to support community choral and instrumental performances. 

The schedule for the 2017 recital series is as follows:

August 11: Deborah Govenor, organist and Paul Bartels, vocal soloist
August 18: Ray Cornils
August 25: Julia Morris-Myers
 
The Summer Organ Series is made possible by the generous support of St. Saviour's Friends of Music. Admission to the recitals is by donation and a reception will follow to meet the artists. Westside Food Pantry Recitals

I am excited to tell you about these upcoming performances for our food pantry. 

THIS WEDNESDAY EVENING, July 26th at 7:00, Southwest Harbor native, soprano, CAROLINE HOMER and pianist, BEN HAVEY appear at St John, 7:00.  Caroline, accompanied by Ben, will sing French Art Songs by Debussy, Poulenc and  Faure.  Ben will perform Beethoven's Piano Sonata, Opus 109, one of Beethoven's late masterpieces.  This is Ben and Caroline's third  performance for the food pantry!

THIS FRIDAY EVENING,  July 28th at 7:00,  Princeton N J, harpsichordist, GAVIN BLACK, returns to St John to perform Bach's French Overture, BWV 831.  This is Bach's longest harpsichord suite.  Gavin describes it as very charismatic and colorful.  He will assemble his 17th c. Italian harpsichord in St John!   Gavin is the founder and director of the Princeton Early Keyboard Center, where he teaches harpsichord, clavichord, organ and continuo.  This is the second summer Gavin performs for our food pantry.


MONDAY, AUGUST 7th at 6:30, the SCHOODIC SUMMER CHORUS, under the direction of Anna Dembska, sing songs from Chile, Italy, the Republic of Georgia, Germany, the US.  I am singing with this 20 member a capella group for the first time.! Their (our) arrangements and harmonies are exciting and unexpected.  We make an exquisite sound!


What a varied group of talented performers!
