From the Wardens: This past week St Andrew & St. John and two partner parishes completed writing the parish profiles and position description that describes our life and work together. Each of the vestries voted to approve moving forward with these descriptions as we seek a priest-in-charge for the three parishes. Our progress was, of course, interrupted by events, but we have reason to believe there may be a healthy pool of candidates and we look forward to interviews. The Diocese will now start receiving names, and then the joint committee will reconvene in a few weeks to determine whom to call for interviews. Gen MacKenzie, Senior Warden Ted Fletcher, Junior Warden
Reflection from Edie Stanwood This is the reflection of a retired RN, ex-wife, and mother of three adult children and six grandchildren. What a blessed past. I want to reflect on what I forgot. I had a job on my days off at the hospital. I was the stern person for my Dad since he couldn't go out without someone with him.
It would take all day to haul his 100 traps. I was the eyes that searched for the yellow and green buoy with a yellow and green spindle. Dad did the hauler that pulls the trap up to check for catch. I baited a new bag filled with cut fish. Sounds awful, but very clean with lots of available water – 'A clean job!" I have much gratitude for a day on a lobster boat with my dad and being blessed with a closeness of God and all the beauty around the boat.
At lunch time dad would shut down the boat and we would have a picnic. He would have a special treat for me which was my pay for the day. What an adventure my day off brought. Lucky me.
Below is a poem written by a local lady, Katherine Higgins, that tells the story about a day at sea and a feathered friend that would join us for the trip home.
The Hitch-Hiker The black-backs bullying the rest, they squabbled over bits of day-old bait and, then, aware we'd hauled our final trap they left us for a boat far to the east. But one, a herring gull, stood calmly on the stern, her knobby legs a'straddle of the cleat. The wind disturbed the feathers on her head and stood them up in comic disarray Full-bosomed, with an orange smear across her beak, she brought to mind a baggy-stockinged dowager who'd put her lipstick on without a looking glass. We tossed a piece of herring at her feet; she gulped it down without a sign of gratitude and rode with us as far as Rice's Head. Then, by some inner urge possessed, she spread her wings and climbed up on the wind, thing of grace and beauty, reunited with the sky. We watched her disappear and, churning wake behind us, headed home.

The MDI Episcopal Broadcast Team is looking for a person from each parish to act as the Transporter of the MDI Episcopal Broadcast Studio (MDIEBS - which is the iPhone on which we record music and readings and services to be used in creating the online services.) Duties would include, on the week recordings are being made when your parish is hosting/coordinating the service, getting the MDIEBS from the person who last had it (at the moment, likely Tony and Joanne Sousa, Jim Vallette, or Jayne Ashworth) and coordinating the timely and early-in-the-week recordings needed for that week (you would have the names and telephone numbers for those who have agreed to share with us - and you need to be aware that you may need to meet someone someplace if they live off-Island.) It is also possible that you may be asked to help them record their reading/music, and you can do/not do whatever makes you comfortable in that respect. If you are willing to do this task for St. Andrew & St. John (we host/coordinate a service once a month), or would like more information, please contact Jayne Ashworth, (207) 244-5985 or (434) 227-0738.
The parishes of Mount Desert Island have been offering Sunday morning worship via the MDI Episcopal channel. Those of us assembling the service would like to know if you are having problems accessing or viewing the service. If so, please send an email to Jayne Ashworth (email@example.com) and describe the problem(s) you have experienced. While we cannot do anything about a power outage, we can try to assist if the difficulty is of the "how do I" variety.
