Community:

The Alcyon Center is a place of contemplation and peace, offering a variety of programs including quiet days, a gathering of women to discuss various topics through poetry, personal experiences (Soul Friends), a monthly quiet day and a weekly study of the Gospel for the coming Sunday. The center is located in Seal Cove on MDI.  For more information please either email office@alcyoncenter.org or call 207.244.1060.

July 27 Open House + Evening Talk: These two events are a good opportunity to bring someone for a first visit to the center (Open House) or to learn about some of the work we've been doing with our training programs (Evening Talk at the Somesville Union Meeting House Parish Hall). Our long-time colleague and Alcyon faculty member Piers Kaniuka will be giving our first annual summer talk. His seminary training, research and experience in addiction/recovery, and prison work give him a perspective that opens the conversation deeply and widely—helping us understand the challenging forces at work in our times and the response we might make to be part of the healing. I don't know of anyone who is braiding all the themes together as he does—it's a rare opportunity to hear him speak publicly, and to get a sense of what we mean by contemplative cultural research.
