Sunday, January 3rd, Epiphany Pageant at 10:00 a.m. – Nicole Carreno will be directing a new script with plenty of opportunity for everyone to participate. A copy of the script with a sign up sheet is located in the undercroft. All actors will be given a copy of the script from which they can read during the play. All parts are small but, nonetheless, important. There will also be opportunities for individuals to sing solos or duets if they desire. Last one to sign up has to play the part of the donkey! Dress rehearsal will be Saturday, January 2nd from 9:00 to 12:00. Call Nicole if you have questions – 244-5878.

Be an Angel: The Westside Food Pantry is organizing Christmas Dinners in cooperation with the Southwest Harbor Food Mart.  They have also signed up their client’s children for the Angel Tree. This heartwarming project, sponsored by the First National Bank, has become a Westside holiday tradition.  Please stop at the Main Street branch of “The First” to choose a name (and become someone’s Angel).

 

The Quietside Nativity: Friday, December 18th, 5:00-8:00 p.m. Music and refreshment available inside the church. Needed: angels, shepherds, Mary, Joseph, etc. and volunteers to help with costumes and food. Contact church office if interested.

 

Christmas Wreaths: If you would like to donate in memory of or in honor of a loved one this year, please sign up in the undercroft after the service. Note on your check “Christmas Flowers”. Names will be printed in the Christmas Eve bulletin.

 

Halfway There: Wednesday, December 16th, 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Sips in Southwest Harbor. Original folk, blues and jazz played by Jim Vekasi, Leonore Hildebrandt, and Brian Dyer Stewart.

Training for Lectors, Acolytes, and Chalice Bearers: Wednesday, December 9th at 4:00 p.m.; repeated Saturday, December 12th at 9:00 a.m. in the Nave. Standards and procedures for these important ministries will be reviewed. New and veteran lay ministers are encouraged to attend one of these sessions. If neither time is convenient, please contact Fr. Tardiff.

 

Holden Evening Prayer: Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Ellsworth invites you to join us for a beautiful sung vespers service.  Come a bit earlier, at 6:00 p.m. and have a simple supper and enjoy a time of Advent fellowship. FMI:  667-7641

 

Organ Recital: Friday, December 11 at 12:15, Julia Morris-Myers will be giving her annual organ recital of Music for Advent and Christmas at St. Saviour’s Parish. Tenor Jay Emlen will be joining her in a number of selections, including the famous Comfort Ye from Messiah. Come and bring your friends and neighbors!

Opportunities to learn and practice Non Violent Communication (NVC): Lynne Hutchinson (667-0188), lynne@lynnehutchinson.com , will offer a brief NVC intro at the first session on Wednesday, December 9th, 6:30-8:15 p.m. at the Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center in Ellsworth. Lynne will offer a six week class in January-February.

 

Discount offered: During December, the Sand Castle Ocean and Nature Store on Main Street in SWH is offering a 20% discount on most items in the store to customers who bring in food items for the Westside Food Pantry.

Bar Harbor Congregational Church’s Annual Christmas Fair: December 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  There will be a luncheon, Attic Treasures, Baked Goods, Crafts, and several raffles.
