Baked Bean and Pie Supper: Saturday, November 8th. Two seatings: 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. Donations will benefit the Westside Food Pantry. For more information or to help bake pies, make beans, set up, serve or clean up, call Dianne McMullan at 244-4582 or Mary Mitchell at 244-9951.

 

Parish Dinner and Auction: Saturday, November 15th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A few of Barbara Sawyer’s keepsake items will be sold.

 

Craft and Food Sale: Saturday, November 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Contact Mary Mitchell (244-9951) to help.

 

Food Pantry Gift Cards: For every $10 donation to the Food Pantry, you are entitled to an attractive gift card suitable for Christmas giving, hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, etc. The cards are available on Sunday mornings, in the office and at the craft fair on November 29th. Give a gift that helps our island neighbors through this really tough winter.

 

Quietside Nativity will be displayed throughout the Advent season with a “live nativity” prior to Christmas. Volunteers are needed for: carpentry, painting, sewing (contact Mary Mitchell), choir development, refreshments, and coordination. To help or for more information, call Bruce Carlson at 244-5003.

Hancock County Medical Mission is collecting donations of OTC unopened medications for adults and children: vitamins, painkillers (ibuprofen, Tylenol), cough medicines, anti-fungal/biotic creams. Place in the “back pew.”

Hancock County Medical Mission is collecting donations of OTC unopened medications for adults and children: vitamins, painkillers (ibuprofen, Tylenol), cough medicines, anti-fungal/biotic creams. Place in the “back pew.”

 

United Thank Offering (UTO) will be collected Sunday, October 19th. A check will be presented at the Diocesan Convention on October 24-25. UTO’s Vision is to significantly impact the lives of women and children because of Christ’s love. To achieve this vision they will focus particularly on projects that implement significant change toward alleviating profound human suffering that the Millennium Development Goals address.

DeMuro's Top of the Hill Restaurant is having a benefit dinner, closing night, October 20th (Monday) from 4:30 to closing to benefit the Westside Food Pantry and Pemetic PTO. Roberta will be performing that evening!

 

The men of St. Andrew & St. John have been invited to gather with the men of Church of Our Father this coming Monday, October 20, at 6:00 p.m. for dinner and a talk by our very own Joe Murphy, president of BHBT on the state of the economy.  Please let Ted Bromage, Frank Barnes, or Joe Wright know if you will be attending by Sunday, October 19th so they will have enough food (catered by Tasha of Mother's Kitchen) for us all.

At the 10:00 AM service on Sunday, October 5, we will again celebrate the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi.  As part of our remembrance of this gentle servant of Christ, we will offer blessings for all God's creatures. Members of all species and denominations are welcome to join us in procession as we gather for Sunday worship.  (Larger critters may find it more comfortable to receive their blessings outside).  Please join us for this wonderful celebration of God's Creation!  Call Fr. Come Home for Supper: The first festive gathering will take place on Friday, October 17.  Sign up this Sunday, or call/email--Frank & Mimi Barnes, Ted & Joan Bromage or Karen Craig.  New host/esses always welcome!  Invite the person next to you or call a friend Remember the details?  The committee divides up the list into groups of 6 to 8 going to different houses.  The hostess (can you be one?) plans a simple main dish and asks guests to bring appetizer, salad, dessert, etc.  There’s lots of good conversation, laughter, and fellowship. Invite a fellow parishioner or a friend from outside the parish to join you.


Regional pre-Diocesan Convention Hearing:
Sunday, October 5, 4:00 p.m. at St. Dunstan's, Ellsworth. All welcome. Rita Redfield and Jean Rohrer will be attending Convention as our lay delegates; it will be held October 24 & 25 in Bangor.

Presiding Bishop Visits Cathedral this Sunday: The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, returns to the Washington National Cathedral this Sunday, October 5, as Sunday Forum guest and preacher at the 11:15 Holy Eucharist service. Join us as she discusses The State of the Episcopal Church: 2008, in person or streamed live at 10:10 am. Questions will be taken from both live and online audiences.

 

New “Extraordinary Sundays” at St. Dunstan’s : The community is invited to attend and take part in the first St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church “Extraordinary Sunday” on October 5th beginning at 9:15 a.m. “The Gathering” will be the first of nine intergenerational events. All are invited to meet downstairs in the church at 9:15 a.m. to join in special activities for all ages. This first creative program will include art projects and music around “The Gathering” theme. All participants will then join together for a special 10:00 worship service followed by a potluck coffee hour. St. Dunstan’s is located at 134 State Street, Ellsworth.  For more information, call 667-5495.

Youth Invited: St. Andrew Lutheran Church, will be hosting a planning session for youth and adults on Wednesday, October 8, from 6 – 8 PM. There will be supper, games and some planning time to discuss what the youth would like to do in the future. Some possibilities might be lock-ins, concerts, skating, Souperbowl Sunday activities, etc. If you are in 6-12 grade or the parent of the same, please put this date on your calendar.
