EVENTS & NEWS

 

Sunday Services, November 2nd: 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s in Southwest Harbor.

 

Lectionary readings for November 2nd: Psalm 107:1-7, 33-37; Joshua 3:7-17;

1 Thessalonians 2:9-13; Matthew 23:1-12.

 

Sunday School: Sundays during the 10:00 service in the undercroft, with the Godly Play lessons.

 

Sunday Forums at 9:00 a.m. in the Undercroft: November 2: Patsy Fogarty and Jim Vekasi, The Why of Stewardship: A Church Budget That We Can All Support; November 9, 16, 23: Vesta Kowalski, Faith Caring for Our Island Earth, discussions based on a book by Nancy Roth (Grounded in Love: Ecology, Faith, and Action.)

 

Weekday Morning Eucharist: Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.

 

All Saints Day: Saturday, November 1st -- Holy Eucharist at 8:00 a.m., followed by a light breakfast and Fall Cleanup Day.  See you there!

 

1st Monday, Women Sharing: November 3rd, 7:00-8:30 p.m. “Why Stress?” Irene Greene Murphy, LCSW, LADC, will talk about dealing with stress through the holidays, at St. John’s. Lessons with a Pro. No reservations needed, just come.

 

Baked Bean and Pie Supper: Saturday, November 8th. Two seatings: 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. Donations will benefit the Westside Food Pantry. For more information or to help bake pies, make beans, set up, serve or clean up, call Dianne McMullan at 244-4582 or Mary Mitchell at 244-9951.

 

Parish Dinner and Auction: Saturday, November 15th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A few of Barbara Sawyer’s keepsake items will be sold.

 

Craft and Food Sale: Saturday, November 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Contact Mary Mitchell (244-9951) to help.

 

Food Pantry Gift Cards: For every $10 donation to the Food Pantry, you are entitled to an attractive gift card suitable for Christmas giving, hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, etc. The cards are available on Sunday mornings, in the office and at the craft fair on November 29th. Give a gift that helps our island neighbors through this really tough winter.

 

Quietside Nativity will be displayed throughout the Advent season with a “live nativity” prior to Christmas. Volunteers are needed for: carpentry, painting, sewing (contact Mary Mitchell), choir development, refreshments, and coordination. To help or for more information, call Bruce Carlson at 244-5003.
