St. Saviour’s:
Organ Concert: Thursday, July 26 at 7:30 pm, St. Saviour’s will present the dazzling concert organist Nathan Laube. A star among young classical musicians, he has quickly earned a place among the organ world’s elite performers. A native of Chicago, Nathan began piano study at age 5 and later studied piano, organ and music theory at the
Nathan’s vast repertoire spans the works of pre-Baroque to living composers and he has become known for his colorful and virtuosic transcriptions of orchestral works by Bach, Mahler, Rossini and Strauss.
Just prior to his concert in Bar Harbor Nathan will have performed at the American Guild of Organists National Convention in Nashville and later this summer will be playing the massive instrument in the Great Auditorium of Ocean Grove, New Jersey. On his program at St. Saviour’s Nathan will play a wide variety of repertoire to show off the church’s colorful, 3 manual, tracker action Visser-Rowland organ. Built in 1977, it is one of the finest organs in the area.
Admission to the concert is by donation, with a suggested amount of $20 for adults and $10 for those under 18. A reception will follow, with an opportunity to meet Nathan and a chance to see St. Saviour’s organ up close. The church is handicap-accessible. St. Mary and St. Jude:
And There was Light: Beginning July 25, come to St. Mary’s by-the-Sea to discuss and learn from Jacques Lusseyran, who tells his story of participation in the French Resistance in spite of (and because of) his blindness, in And there was Light. The book is available through Amazon and local libraries, so, order now and plan to participate in this spiritually moving and insightful life. Class will be followed by Contemplative Evening Prayer which begins at 5:30 p.m.

Love Free or Die will be shown on Thursday, July 26 at 4 PM in the Parish Hall. Everybody is welcome. This movie is about change, commitment and courage on many different levels and it is worth seeing wherever you stand on the issue of Gay Marriage. Love Free or Die is about a man whose two defining passions are in direct conflict: his love for God and for his partner Mark. Gene Robinson is the first openly gay person to become a bishop in the historic traditions of Christendom. His consecration in 2003, to which he wore a bullet-proof vest, caused an international stir, and he has lived with death threats every day since. Love Free or Die follows Robinson from small-town churches in the New Hampshire North Country to
Holy Eucharist and Breakfast, Wednesdays at 7:00 a.m.; Healing Service on the fourth Wednesday.
Our new Old Fashioned "Down East Yard Sale" will be July 21st 9:00 to 2:00 at the Hulls Cove Schoolhouse! This will be a new venture for our Church and we are welcoming donations of household items and great yard sale finds. Please no electronics.
Cellist Toshi Kono and the Hulls Cove Virtuosi are once again giving a recital at 7 pm on the evening of Friday, July 20, in the Church. Compositions by Bach, Schumann, Chopin, and Brahms… AND (for a taste of something unusual!) a selection of Japanese songs.
