Quietside Festival will be held on Saturday, July 15. Please bring your items for the basket raffle and silent auction into the office by Thursday, July 13 so they can be recorded and tagged. If anyone is willing to help with set up on Saturday morning and tear down afterwards, it would be much appreciated. If you would like to sell lemonade, pies, and/or basket raffle tickets, call the church office and let Michele know (244-3229).
The Dog Mountain Band will once again return to the porch of St John Church to entertain the front-lawn crowds attending the Quietside Festival on July 15. Members are: Mike Ryan, Linda Soukup, Jim Vekasi, Stan Wass and Fred Benson. They promise a stunning array of Bluegrass, folk, and singalongs to serenade the Flamingo Day parade marchers and watchers. Don't miss it!
UPCOMING Westside Food Pantry Recitals
Southwest Harbor native, soprano, Caroline Homer and pianist, Ben Haney return for their 3rd summer to perform for our food pantry. Their recital is Wednesday, July 26, 7:00.
Princeton, NJ harpsichordist, Gavin Black returns to St John for his recital Friday, July 29th at 7:00. Gavin will play Bach's French Overture BWV 831. This is Bach's longest harpsichord piece. Gavin describes it as "very charismatic, colorful and interesting".
Islesford native, pianist, Christina Spurling joins violinist Yi-Li Change for a performance of sonatas for piano and violin by Beethoven, Debussy and Brahms. Last summer, Christina performed with three vocalists. Their performance is Saturday, August 26th at 8:00.

at St. Saviour: Sesquicentennial! Sunday, July 23 at 4 PM, the Episcopal Parishes of Mount Desert Island will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first recorded Episcopal worship service on MDI. The event will include a singing procession from St. Saviour's to the Bar Harbor Village Green, the Office of Evening Prayer from the 1789 Prayer Book, followed by light refreshments in St. Saviour's Parish Hall. Dress in 19th century costume if you wish!
Holy Eucharist is celebrated on Wednesdays at noon in the Chapel, in a simple, non-musical service. We plan to commemorate saints and seasons using the church's published calendar, as well as focusing on healing for ourselves and for the world.
Caregivers' Support Group meets in the Rectory Library from 1:15 to 2:45 pm (following the Noon Eucharist) the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Open to the entire community!

This summer (July 21-23) the Spiritual Life and Learning Center is pleased to be sponsoring a program at Schoodic Institute in Winter Harbor, titled Your Spirit - Your World: Connecting heart, earth and soul. This year's conference has been designed to help participants tap into their inherent divine energy and interconnectedness in order to become spiritual activists in their daily lives. It features Mirabai Starr (fresh from her work with Fr. Richard Rohr at the Conspire Conference) and five other presenters/workshop leaders whose goal is to offer participants tools to be more effective in reconnecting their spiritual life to the world in which they live each day.
