Kid’s Care Food Packaging
On October 4, 2014 over 60 people from various churches and Scout troops worked together at St. Andrew to package 31,278 servings of a nutritious meal for hungry people in Hancock County. Mark your calendar – September 19 is our next packaging event, 9-2ish. We are aiming to break our record – $8000 would do it – $10,000 would be ever so much better! We would like to have as much as possible of that by September 1 so that we can get our order in for the product needed. A quarter buys one serving; $1.50 a package that feeds 6; $54 a case of 36 packages. Community:
Birch Bay Village is hosting a local Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 12 from 10am to noon, rain or shine. Everyone is invited; pre-registration is not required. Welcome and sign-in is from 10:00-10:30am at Birch Bay Village, located at 25 Village Inn Road in Hulls Cove. The walk will be around Birch Bay’s scenic quarter-mile track with water and rest stations available. All walkers will receive an Alzheimer’s Association wristband and a Certificate of Participation as thank you gifts for helping to raise awareness, plus have the chance to win fabulous raffle prizes. Walkers are also encouraged to wear purple to show their support. Donations will be accepted for the regional Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Bangor on Saturday, October 24.
Emmaus Homeless Shelter is now open to anyone in Hancock County. Their FREE Clothing Closet is open Monday-Saturday, 10:00-2:00 p.m., featuring gently used clothing for men, women and children. No appointment is necessary. Their FREE Food Pantry is open Monday-Friday, 10:00-2:00 and Saturday, 9:00-11:00. Call the shelter (667-3962) to sign up. FREE housewares, linens and furniture. Come to shelter to sign up.
Singing for Those at the End of Life: Saturday, October 24, 8:30-4:00 at Maple Hill Farm, Hallowell. Kathy Leo, founding member of the Hallowell Singers, will be the keynote speaker. Don’t miss this great opportunity to expand your knowledge and resources to establish and nurture a bedside singing group. Network and sing with others who comfort and support the ill and dying at bedside through music and song. FYI: www.harboursingers.org
