Sunday Forum: April 12 – discussion of plans for St. Andrew’s anniversary and possible completion of St. Andrew’s undercroft.

 

Sunday Services: Starting this Sunday, services will be held at 8:00 and 10:00 a.m.

 

Westside Food Pantry Recital coming up Friday, April 24th. Harmonica player, Ray Lambert performs for our food pantry, 6:30 at St John.  Suggested donation: $10 — ALL proceeds go to the food pantry.  Ray plays a variety of harmonicas and specializes in Quebecois dance tunes.  Stephen Sampson will accompany Ray on the piano.

 

St. Saviour:

Contemplative Prayer Group meets for one hour at noon on Fridays to pray together in silence and to share resources and experiences from their prayer journeys. The hour will begin with gathering in silence, then the leader will share a resource or an insight about contemplative prayer, then there will be a time of silent prayer, and finally a short time to share our thoughts and experiences in group discussion. Everyone is invited to come to this

group.

 

St. Mary & St. Jude:

Prayer Shawl Ministry: 10:00 a.m. on Thursdays.

 

MDI Episcopal Churches:

Men's Bible Study Group meets on a monthly basis. The group focuses on selected Bible readings and discuss how these passages affect our lives and our relationships with others. The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month and our next meeting will take place at 10:00 am on April 8, 2015 at St. Mary’s Chapel, Northeast Harbor. Meeting locations alternate among Church of our Father, St. Mary's, St. Saviour's and St. John’s Episcopal churches. Community

Best Ever Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Westside Food Pantry, Saturday, April 11 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Southwest Harbor Congregational Church, 29 High Street. Cost is $7/person or $25/family. Price includes homemade meat and vegetarian sauces, salad, bread, and desserts provided by some of the best cooks on the island. Gluten free pasta will also be available.

 

10th Annual Spring Fest Concert and Auction: The Emmaus Homeless Shelter of Ellsworth will be hold their 10th Annual Spring Fest Concert and Auction from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m on April 19 at the Ellsworth Elementary/Middle School with a delicious Irish meal and entertainment by the Celtic Maritime duo, Castlebay. 

As in previous years, there will be over 100 great Live and Silent auction items for attendees to bid on and new this year, a raffle table filled with even more wonderful prizes! Items up for bid so far include 4-one day passes into Disney World, 2 tickets to a Waterfront concert of your choice, the services of a professional style coach, a dental cleaning complete with exam and x-rays, and many gift certificates to local restaurants, food, original art, lodging, wellness, services, fun activities and much, much more! Tickets are available for $30 each or 2 for $50.  You can also purchase a table of 6 for $125.  Tickets are available at the shelter or by calling 667-3962.

The proceeds from this event support the Emmaus Shelter’s efforts to not only provide a safe haven for the homeless but also supports the various other programs we provide to those in need in our communities.  Please support this wonderful event and help us support others.

 

COFFEE’S ON! The Maine Sea Coast Mission cordially invites all MDI Senior Citizens to join them for Coffee, Conversation and Music the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the Colket Center, 127 West Street, Bar Harbor.  It's an enjoyable gathering in a beautiful place.

 

The Acadia Community Theater presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on April 10, April 11, April 17, and April 18 at 7:00 PM, and Sunday April 12 at 2:00 PM at MDI High School. Visit acadiacommunitytheater@gmail.com for more info.

 

The award winning Windham Chamber Singers, Rr. Richard Nickerson, Conductor, will present a concert on Thursday, April 9 at 7:00 PM, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 175 Downeast Hwy, Ellsworth.

 

MDI Hospital and the Southwest Harbor Memorial Library will hold a Death Café on Saturday, April 18 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the Library. Many people recognize that we live in a death denying culture and that we can live more fully if we embrace the fact that death happens. Death Café is not a support group, but rather a forum of open discussion for people, often strangers, to gather, eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Refreshments will be provided and there is no fee to attend. For more information, contact Carla Tanguay at 244-3267.
