Green & Lean is a free series of monthly lectures which focuses on ways to save money and resources. They have adopted a very pragmatic approach – no technical jargon, no complicated concepts, just straightforward information you can put to use in your own home or place of work. Next meeting will be Wednesday, October 21st at 7 PM, Putting It All Together: Wood, Wind & Solar. You will learn what the local Coast Guard is doing to integrate retrofitted boilers (from oil to wood pellets) with wind and solar in staff housing and the base – a workable model for home and business owners. Held at St. John Episcopal Church; sponsored by ROOTs, St. John Episcopal Church, & Downeast Group of the Sierra Club. Contact Erika Shriner, 244-3532 for more information.
Volunteers are needed for Eastern Area Agency on Aging’s Z Fix program. EAA-Z Fix uses volunteer labor to do minor home repairs and maintenance for seniors, allowing them to stay in their homes longer. If you are a handy ‘do-it-yourself’ type, we want to talk to you! Typical jobs performed are installing grab bars, fixing broken steps and weak floor boards, repairing light fixtures and leaking toilet valves, replacing storm windows and screens; and yard work. If you can help, call them at 1-800-432-7812.
Office Hours: The office will be open Thursday, October 15th; and Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday next week from 8:30-2:30. If you need assistance when the office is closed, please call Richard Tardiff at 244-4037, Ted Fletcher, 266-8415, or Chloe Hatcher, 669-2801.
