CHRISTMAS EVE and CHRISTMAS DAY SERVICES
Christmas Eve online service will be Lessons and Carols.
We hope you will join us this afternoon, at 4:00, for the MDI Episcopal Lessons and Carols service. We encourage everyone to have with them a candle that can be lit - it can be a real candle or an electric candle - for use during the service. Just as we share light at in-person Christmas Eve services, we will be sharing light in our virtual service, too. Please join us in being prepared to share Christ's light in the world where you are!
This online service will feature music and readings offered by each of the four parishes on Mount Desert Island. Clergy participants include the Reverend William Hague, the Reverend John Burton, the Reverend Jennifer Reece, and the Reverend Stephen Muncie.
On Christmas Day, the online service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Consecrated bread will be distributed between 2:00 and 4:00 at St. John. A table will be set up at the church door. Someone will be present to safely oversee distribution. A printed prayer guide will be given out to guide individuals for reception at home. The guide is based on Communion in Special Circumstances from the Book of Common Prayer.

Sacred Ground is an Episcopal-developed series of gatherings that are "part of the Becoming Beloved Community initiative of The Episcopal Church, a long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. ...This is a race dialogue series designed for these times. It is an attempt to be responsive to the profound challenges that currently exist in our society. It is focused on the challenges that swirl around issues of race and racism, as well as the difficult but respectful and transformative dialogue we need to have with each other about them. It invites participants to walk back through history in order to peel away the layers that brought us to today, and to do so in a personal way, reflecting on family histories and stories, as well as important narratives that shape the collective American story. It holds the vision of beloved community as a guiding star – where all people are honored and protected and nurtured as beloved children of God, where we weep at one another's pain and seek one another's flourishing."
