Collect of the Day - Sarah Groman
Everlasting God, you have ordained and constituted in a wonderful order the ministries of angels and mortals: Mercifully grant that, as your holy angels always serve and worship you in heaven, so by your appointment they may help and defend us here on earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The First Lesson: Genesis 28:10-17 - Peter Hammond
Jacob left Beer-sheba and went toward Haran. He came to a certain place and stayed there for the night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place. And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, the top of it reaching to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And the Lord stood beside him and said, "I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring; and your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you and in your offspring. Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, "Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!" And he was afraid, and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven."

Psalm 103:19-22 - Stacy and Rebecca Obenhaus
19  The Lord has set his throne in heaven,
and his kingship has dominion over all.
20  Bless the Lord, you angels of his, you mighty ones who do his bidding,
and hearken to the voice of his word.
21  Bless the Lord, all you his hosts, you ministers of his who do his will.
22  Bless the Lord, all you works of his, in all places of his dominion;
bless the Lord, O my soul.

The Second Lesson: Revelation 12:7-12 - Inua Saibou-Baldi
War broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming, "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Messiah, for the accuser of our comrades has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. But they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not cling to life even in the face of death. Rejoice then, you heavens and those who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you with great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!"

Hymn: My Lord, What a Morning!  - Johanna Stickney, flute
Refrain:
My Lord, what a morning! My Lord, what a morning!
O, my Lord, what a morning, when the stars begin to fall!
You will hear the trumpet sound, to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God's right hand, when the stars begin to fall.

You will hear the sinner cry, to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God's right hand, when the stars begin to fall.
You will hear the Christian shout, to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God's right hand, when the stars begin to fall.

The Gospel: John 1:47-51 - The Rev. Abby Pettee
When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, "Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!" Nathanael asked him, "Where did you get to know me?" Jesus answered, "I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you." Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus answered, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these." And he said to him, "Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

The Sermon - The Rt. Rev. Thomas James Brown, Bishop of Maine

Nicene Creed - The Rev. Marguerite A.H. Steadman, Michael Gleason
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People - Andrew Moran, Edmund Hartt, Susan Andrews, Sarah Groman, Kim Napolitano-Perry, Lisa Lindsay, Jason Burks, The Rev. Cn. Nancy Moore

Let us pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.
All powerful, all loving God, bless your Church. Give its leaders prophetic voices to speak truth to power in the name of the most vulnerable among us, so beloved of your Son. May your holy angels defend and sustain the Church through this harrowing time.
Lord hear our prayer; and let our cry come to you.
Bless, O Lord, the leaders of nations and peoples. We pray especially for places in this country most besieged by the pandemic; for broken places where healthcare and resources are scarce; and for places where people continue to be devastated by systemic racism.
Lord hear our prayer; and let our cry come to you.
Almighty God, we ask that you send your holy angels to preserve in peace children, parents, and teachers who are experiencing school in strange new ways; and the elderly, confined to their homes and separated from family.
Lord hear our prayer; and let our cry come to you.
We ask your blessing and protection on all medical staff and hospital workers; medical researchers; farmers, delivery and store employees; and cleaning crews, fighting the spread of infection.
Lord hear our prayer; and let our cry come to you.
Holy and healing God, we ask that you give your ministering angels charge over all who are sick: those with COVID-19, those with other illnesses and conditions, and all who suffer.
Lord hear our prayer; and let our cry come to you.
We pray also for those who have died; for the families and friends they leave behind; for those who have died alone; and for those who have no one to remember them. May angels surround them, and saints welcome them in peace.
Lord hear our prayer; and let our cry come to you.

A Prayer for the Power of the Spirit Among the People of God - Heidi Shott
God of all power and love, we give thanks for your unfailing presence and the hope you provide in times of uncertainty and loss. Send your Holy Spirit to enkindle in us your holy fire. Revive us to live as Christ's body in the world: a people who pray, worship, learn, break bread, share life, heal neighbors, bear good news, seek justice, rest and grow in the Spirit.
Wherever and however we gather, unite us in common prayer and send us in common mission, that we and the whole creation might be restored and renewed, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Confession and Absolution - Kim Napolitano-Perry
We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

The Peace - The Rev. Holly Hoffmann
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

Hymn: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence - Musicians from St. Michael's

The Great Thanksgiving - The Rev. Jud Pealer
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Celebrant: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them to the Lord.
Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

It is truly right to glorify you, Father, and to give you thanks; for you alone are God, living and true, dwelling in light inaccessible from before time and for ever.

Fountain of life and source of all goodness, you made all things and fill them with your blessing; you created them to rejoice in the splendor of your radiance.
Countless throngs of angels stand before you to serve you night and day; and, beholding the glory of your presence, they offer you unceasing praise. Joining with them, and giving voice to every creature under heaven, we acclaim you, and glorify your Name, as we sing,

Sanctus - Musicians from St. Michael's
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

We acclaim you, holy Lord, glorious in power. Your mighty works reveal your wisdom and love. You formed us in your own image, giving the whole world into our care, so that, in obedience to you, our Creator, we might rule and serve all your creatures. When our disobedience took us far from you, you did not abandon us to the power of death. In your mercy you came to our help, so that in seeking you we might find you. Again and again you called us into covenant with you, and through the prophets you taught us to hope for salvation.

Father, you loved the world so much that in the fullness of time you sent your only Son to be our Savior. Incarnate by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, he lived as one of us, yet without sin. To the poor he proclaimed the good news of salvation; to prisoners, freedom; to the sorrowful, joy. To fulfill your purpose he gave himself up to death; and, rising from the grave, destroyed death, and made the whole creation new.

And, that we might live no longer for ourselves, but for him who died and rose for us, he sent the Holy Spirit, his own first gift for those who believe, to complete his work in the world, and to bring to fulfillment the sanctification of all.

When the hour had come for him to be glorified by you, his heavenly Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end; at supper with them he took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."

Father, we now celebrate this memorial of our redemption. Recalling Christ's death and his descent among the dead, proclaiming his resurrection and ascension to your right hand, awaiting his coming in glory; and offering to you, from the gifts you have given us, this bread and this cup, we praise you and we bless you.

We praise you, we bless you, we give thanks to you, and we pray to you, Lord our God.

Lord, we pray that in your goodness and mercy your Holy Spirit may descend upon us, and upon these gifts, sanctifying them and showing them to be holy gifts for your holy people, the bread of life and the cup of salvation, the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ.

Grant that all who share this bread and cup may become one body and one spirit, a living sacrifice in Christ, to the praise of your Name.

Remember, Lord, your one holy catholic and apostolic Church, redeemed by the blood of your Christ. Reveal its unity, guard its faith, and preserve it in peace.

And grant that we may find our inheritance with all the saints who have found favor with you in ages past. We praise you in union with them and give you glory through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, all honor and glory are yours, Almighty God and Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and for ever. AMEN.

The Lord's Prayer - Lisa Lindsay
Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us,
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

Fraction - The Rev. Jud Pealer
Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.
Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.

A Prayer for Spiritual Communion - The Rev. Timothy Boggs
Beloved, a spiritual communion is a personal devotional that anyone can pray, expressing desire to receive Holy Communion in this moment, but in which circumstances impede them from actually receiving Holy Communion.

Since we now are apart, let us pray:
Gracious Christ, you invite us to your feast, setting before us your heart's bread, and your life's wine. We yearn with all our souls to feast with you at the Altar, to taste and see the Lord's goodness today. Since we cannot now find union at the table, grant your presence spiritually. We offer you our hearts, lives and souls, that we may become eternally one. Amen.

Spiritual Communion Music: Humbly I Adore Thee
Greg Boardman, viola; Klara Tammany, singing bowl

Post Communion Prayer - Lucia Elder
Almighty and everliving God,
we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food
of the most precious Body and Blood
of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ;
and for assuring us in these holy mysteries
that we are living members of the Body of your Son,
and heirs of your eternal kingdom.
And now, Father, send us out
to do the work you have given us to do,
to love and serve you
as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord.
To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

The Blessing - The Rt. Rev. Thomas James Brown, Bishop of Maine
Our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore, and the blessing, mercy and grace of God almighty, the creator, the Christ, and the holy spirit, be upon you and remain with you this day and forevermore. Amen.

Dismissal - The Rev. Cindy Dawson
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
