St. John's Centennial Celebration

Please plan to join us on Sunday, September 16, to celebrate 100 years at St. John the Divine in Southwest Harbor at the 10:00 a.m. service. There will be special music; a history display of photos and newspaper articles in the undercroft; and a birthday cake!

Meditation on Tuesdays at 4:00 at St. John's. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and "prayer of the heart," an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen.

From the Diocese of Maine{Diocese of Maine}

As a Parish of the Diocese of Maine, we are part of a church family that extends from Kittery to Fort Kent, and connects us to the rest of the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion.  We share ministry with our Bishop and with every worshipping community.
If you are not subscribed to the Diocesan twice monthly email newsletter, the DioLog, please click [here] to subscribe.  If you are subscribed, don't forget to open it and read it every time!  There is a lot going on in every corner of the Diocese, and you wouldn't want to miss anything!

It is with deep appreciation and a good bit of sadness that I announce that our Canon for Communication and Advocacy, Heidi Shott, has been called as the new Communications Director for the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, an organization that raises funds for 21 humanitarian institutions in Jordan, Israel, and Palestine. This is a new position for which Heidi is highly qualified, and I am personally delighted that she has been chosen from among a field of more than 100 candidates. Heidi is passionate about this work and will be a great asset to AFEDJ. Heidi begins her new position on September 4, and we are preparing for the transition.

MDI Episcopal Churches:

Confidential Prayer Chain: Unlike our published prayer lists, prayer requests that come into the Prayer Chain remain private to the prayer chain itself, which will pray devotedly for one week unless an updated request is made. If you'd like to know more about this or our Pastoral Care Team, please contact our office administrators or Mother Kathleen.

St. Saviour:

St. Saviour's Episcopal Church at 41 Mt. Desert Street in Bar Harbor is proud to present the 2018 Summer Organ Series Fridays at 12:15 pm! Donations will be welcome for St. Saviour's Friends of Music Fund which presents this series each year.

August 17 – Ray Cornils

August 24 – Daniel Pyle with Elena Kraineva (viola d'amore)

Church of Our Father:

Our Thrift Shop will be open on Saturdays from 9-12 and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6 pm.

St. Mary & St. Jude:

On the Beach with Jesus:  Our Transfiguration hike was so much fun that everyone wanted more. On Monday, August 20, we will gather at 4:00 p.m. at the Hunters Beach parking lot (Cooksey Drive), and make a very easy .3 mile hike down to Hunters Beach. There will be a child-friendly activity, hopefully creating time and space for adults to reflect, stroll, or simply get to know each other. Then we will all come together to explore the resurrection story of Jesus feeding his disciples on the beach (John 21) and what it might be saying to us today. Please join us, especially if you wanted to come on the Gorham Mountain hike and couldn't make it.

Community:

Families First Community Center: Raffle tickets are on sale for a queen size quilt made by the Island Quilt Guild (several of St. John's women are part of this guild and helped make the quilt). The drawing will be held at Families First second annual Gourmet Dinner at Big Cat's Catering in Trenton on Sunday, September 9. You need NOT be present to win! Tickets ae 2 for $5 or 5 for $10. For tickets, e-mail familiesfirstellsworth@gmail.com or call 460-3271.

The Alcyon Center is a place of contemplation and peace, offering a variety of programs including quiet days, a gathering of women to discuss various topics through poetry, personal experiences (Soul Friends), a monthly quiet day and a weekly study of the Gospel for the coming Sunday. The center is located in Seal Cove on MDI.  For more information please either email office@alcyoncenter.org or call 207.244.1060.
