Meditation on Tuesdays at 4:00 at St. John's. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and "prayer of the heart," an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen.
Joint Worship Service—Sunday, April 29, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Jude in Northeast Harbor. Clean Up Days: St. John, Saturday, May 12; St. Andrew, Saturday, June 2. Yard Sale — Friday and Saturday, June 8 & 9 at St. Andrew. As you delve into your spring cleaning, please remember that we are seeking treasures for the 5th annual Yard Sale at St. Andrew's. The basement door is open so feel free to drop off your goodies when the spirit moves you. Please NO books, clothing, or electronics. If you would like to join the fun, please let Barbara Campbell or Jayne Ashworth know. There are opportunities to help set up for the sale as well as work on the sale days. Services at St. Andrew by-the-Lake — Sundays, June 17 through October 7. Pastoral Care Retreat —Praying in Paint—on Saturday, May 26th 10-3pm at the YWCA in Bar Harbor. The Reverend Susan Berry Taylor, working priest and artist, will be our facilitator. The Alcyon Center is a place of contemplation and peace, offering a variety of programs including quiet days, a gathering of women to discuss various topics through poetry, personal experiences (Soul Friends), a monthly quiet day and a weekly study of the Gospel for the coming Sunday. | | Westside Food Pantry: On the first Sunday of the last month of the distribution season there were many expressions of appreciation and gratitude from our neighbors receiving vouchers. "The Pantry's help has been so important this winter. Thank you." I want us all to hear these words. It verifies what we who spend time with our neighbors on these Sundays during the winter already know--our help is needed and appreciated. When I contemplate the 1,373 vouchers that were each labeled by hand with a neighbor's name, I am aware of just how many contributions--1 voucher for every $10--it takes to sustain this work and to put caring into action each season. I wish that all who have donated to this work could know and feel what we who work closely on distribution Sundays know and feel--it really does matter. So, a look at the numbers. $13,730 worth of vouchers to 238 adults and 85 children representing 169 households. There were 2 new households registered comprised of 4 people.
The Pantry will be open on Sunday, April 22, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. This will be the final day for the season. | |
