At St. John's

Meditation on Tuesdays at 4:00 at St. John's. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and "prayer of the heart," an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen.

Westside Food Pantry:

January 2018 started at a record setting pace for voucher distribution, but ended slightly lower than last January.  We concluded this important winter month when household finances are strained by the need to heat and to eat.  What small contribution the Pantry makes to our neighbors helping with these competing demands in cold weather I know is help.

In January we distributed $16,620 in vouchers.  That is 4.9% fewer than January 2017.  We had 391 neighbors receive vouchers.  That was 292 adults and 99 children representing 212 households.  There were 13 new households registered comprising 19 neighbors.

Continuing in the realm of numbers, I am happy to report that we have closed the gap between the total value of contributions received through January 21, 2018 and last year this same date.  We are now about $5,000 short of last year's figure.  This is much improved from the $12,000 difference I reported at the beginning of the month.

The Pantry's work continues, as it has for 27 years.  And in the routine struggles of another MDI winter, I take warm joy in the opportunity that we have to share our need for each other in this work.

Blessings and peace,

Dean

The Pantry will be open on Sunday, February 4 (12:00-1:00 p.m.) at the Harbor House in Southwest Harbor.
