Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and "prayer of the heart," an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen. Do you like to color? Coloring is not just for children; many adults find it very meditative. This Lent, St. Andrew & St. John is offering a collaborative coloring project as a spiritual practice. Eight pre-printed panels depicting the Scriptural Stations of the Cross are laid out in the Common Room and are available for quiet coloring any time. Come and color as little or as much as you want, when you want. Markers are provided. During Holy Week, we will mount and hang the colored panels in the church, where we can use them for the Devotion of the Stations of the Cross. | | From the Diocese of Maine As a Parish of the Diocese of Maine, we are part of a church family that extends from Kittery to Fort Kent, and connects us to the rest of the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion. We share ministry with our Bishop and with every worshipping community. If you are not subscribed to the Diocesan weekly email newsletter, the DioLog, please click [here] to subscribe. If you are subscribed, don't forget to open it and read it every week! There is a lot going on in every corner of the Diocese, and you wouldn't want to miss anything! | | at St. Saviour: Holy Eucharist is celebrated on Wednesdays at noon in the Chapel, in a simple, non-musical service. We plan to commemorate saints and seasons using the church's published calendar, as well as focusing on healing for ourselves and for the world. | | at St. John and St. Saviour: Lent Forums: During Lent Father Tim and Mother Kathleen will be offering a book study. The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen PDFs of Mother Kathleen's sermons and video recordings of Fr. Tim's sermons are now available on St. Saviour's website ( www.StSaviours.me); Fr. Tim's videos are also available at St. John's website at ( www.StAndrewStJohn.blogspot.com) Confidential Prayer Chain: Unlike our published prayer lists, prayer requests that come into the Prayer Chain remain private to the prayer chain itself, which will pray devotedly for one week unless an updated request is made. If you'd like to know more about this or our Pastoral Care Team, please contact our office administrators or Mother Kathleen. There are hundreds of daily Lenten Meditation resources available on the internet and in bookstores, focusing on many different ways of experiencing Lent. I'd like to recommend two: Episcopal Relief and Development has been publishing Lenten Meditations for years, calling us each day to remember those in need of help, and exhorting us to see the spiritual joy in partnering with them to "heal a hurting world." Their daily devotions are available in booklet form, for PDF download, or daily email delivery at http://tinyurl.com/ER-Dlent2017. The Anglican Board of Mission is an analogous agency of the Church of Australia. They have published a beautiful Lenten Devotional called "Into the Desert," meditating on the spiritual and physical experience of the desert which is so integral to Australian identity, and which may be strange and challenging to us. It is available in book form, or as a free iPhone/Android app at http://tinyurl.com/desert2017. This is the devotional I hope to follow this Lent. Inviting you to a Holy Lent, Fr. Tim. | | Church of Our Father: Bible Study in March and April: A 5 week study program based on a book by Max Lucado titled: "He Chose the Nails" on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am. Stations of the Cross: each Wednesday evening in Lent at 5:30 in the nave, followed with a soup and bread supper. St. Mary & St. Jude: Reading Group on the Spiritual Life: Do you crave a deeper spiritual life? Do you feel like your daily preoccupations are too numerous to make time for it? Henri Nouwen's Making All Things New is a short, easy book that offers valuable insights and practical suggestions for spiritual growth in the face of everyday life. The first half of each session will be spent reading the book aloud together, followed by discussion of the material and time for prayer. Hard copies are available in the parish office. In the Parish Hall, following worship Sunday, March 19: Chapter 2, Sunday, March 26: Chapter 3 Contemplative Prayer Group: Tuesdays at 4:30, join Father John in exploring the practice of Christian meditation and contemplative prayer. Meetings will take place in St. Mary's Chapel and will include instruction and practice in this ancient form of prayer. While not required, recommended supplemental reading is Into the Silent Land: A Guide to the Practice of Contemplation by Martin Laird. | | In Our Community: WORSHIP AND SUPPER The four MDI Episcopal parishes are offering Lenten worship and suppers on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. As it has been over the last few years, each church will offer a Lenten devotional worship, to be followed by a simple supper (e.g., soup, bread, salad).
