St. John:

Meditation on Thursdays at 4:15 at St. John's. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and "prayer of the heart," an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen. 

 

Annual Meeting: Sunday, June 19, following the 10:00 service at St. John. There will be election of new officers and convention delegates. Reports are due Thursday, June 9 (PLEASE). You may send them to saints315@myfairpoint.net

 

Upcoming Westside Food Pantry Recitals:

Thursday, June 30: The ACADIA TRAD SCHOOL continues their partnership with the Westside Food Pantry Recital Series and will perform Tunes from the Isles at St John on June 30th at 4:00.  Our food pantry will receive a $500 donation. Tickets are $16.50 in advance at tickets@acadiatradschool.com ; $18 door.

 

Tuesday, July 5: Soprano, CAROLINE HOMER and pianist, BEN HANEY have offered to perform as part of the Westside Food Pantry Recital Series at 6:30 p.m. At their first performance for our food pantry, these young musicians stunned the audience with their beautiful and challenging music.  I am very happy that they will be back.

 

Thursday, July 7: ARTHUR RUSSELL STRINGS will again present a recital at 4:30 p.m. Arthur Russell Strings is the summer program of Ellsworth Community Music Institute. ECMI provides an enriched sense of community through music by providing instruction and performance opportunities for people of all ages, musical abilities, and backgrounds.

 

St. Saviour:

Taizé: An Ecumenical Prayer Service at St. Saviour's Parish at 6 pm on Friday, June 17

Recital:  Deborah Fortier, pianist, will present a program of works by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and her own compositions on Sunday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. Suggested donation is $15. All donations will benefit MDI Search and Rescue.

 

Church of Our Father:

Spring Cleaning?? The E.C.W. is now collecting items for the "Waste Not, Want Not Thrift Shop" for the 2016 season June opening. Our little Thrift Shop is an important ministry in our community. We welcome donations of good clean clothing for all ages, household bedding and fine linens, decorator pillows (popular), yarn and glassware collectables for the Knick Knack Corner. Please leave donations in the Parish Hall or Thrift Shop.

The Emmaus Homeless Shelter is having a major fundraiser. Their Summer Auction will be on Saturday, June 18, 11:00 am at the Elks L​​odge in Ellsworth.

Jesus Then and Now

An Adult Retreat hosted by the Diocese of Maine

June 17 - 19 at Camp Bishopswood

 Join us for a weekend on beautiful Lake Megunticook near Camden, and explore your connection with the many dimensions of Jesus, the Christ. This retreat is for everyone who wonders how Jesus made a difference in his own day and how he makes a difference today. It will put us in touch with Jesus at crucial points in his ministry and beyond.  How will you find your life story in the life story of Jesus?   Come ready to experience God's love as revealed in Christ, the natural beauty of Camp Bishopswood and in new friendships.

Heart + Mind + Soul 

Camp will open for recreation at 3PM Friday; Dinner at 6PM; Program begins at 7PM. The retreat ends 11:30AM on Sunday. 

Retreat cost (including 2 nights lodging, meals): For a shared cabin clustered around the bathhouse: $95.  A few spaces are available in buildings with shared bathrooms: $125. For those who wish to make their own lodging arrangements: $65.  Scholarships for Sunday school teachers and youth event volunteers, and financial aid, are available.

Jesus and the Heart of Wisdom

The 2016 Downeast Spiritual Life Conference has partnered with the Jesus Seminar on the Road to bring you ways of thinking about Jesus that are the result of more than ten years of extensive research by members of the seminar, leading theologians, philosophers, biblical scholars, anthropologists and archeologists. The event will be held with scholars David Galston and Robert Miller on Friday and Saturday, July 15-16 at the Moore Community Center, 133 State Street, Ellsworth.
