St. John:

Yard Sale: June 14-15, at the Trafton Garage, 40 Seal Cove Road. It is now that time of year for all to heed the call of your attics, basements, garages, etc. They are calling you to rummage through them and pass on the “found items” to St. Andrew & St. John’s Tag Sale and the Quietside Fair. All items for the sale are to be delivered to Priscilla Trafton’s garage on Seal Cove Road.

 

St. Saviour:

Friday Study Group led by Sarah Flynn and Julia Morris-Myers, Fridays from 12-1 in the Rectory Library. We are looking at Cynthia Bourgeault's The Wisdom Jesus. This book asks us to shed what we think we know about Jesus and look at him and his teachings with fresh eyes. The class will meet through May 31.

 

Natural Causes Killed Victor: The Opera: A middle-aged man; an ill, frail, quiet immigrant, imprisoned for a minor crime; a callous, avoidable death. Be a part of the presentation of this folk opera written by George Swanson. There are parts for young and old, male and female. Contact George Swanson at 244-0579 for audition times. World Premier is August 16 and 17 at St. Saviour’s.

Retirement Party: Sunday, May 26, will be The Rev. Patricia Robertson’s last Sunday. A party will be held for George and Patricia at the Neighborhood House from 3-5:00.

 

Community Events

This month’s Musical Evening will be on May 17 at 7:00 p.m. and will feature sea shanties by Skip Fraley and Ed Horvath. Dorothy and Jim Clunan will be the hosts.

 

Touch A Truck: Join us on Saturday, May 18^th from 10am-2pm for the annual Touch A Truck event held at the Bar Harbor Airport. Fun for the whole family! Come see the inside and outside of more than 60 vehicles! Earthmovers, excavators, diggers, rescue vehicles, fire trucks, 18-wheelers, limousine, ambulance, snow plow, cherry picker, dump truck, bulldozer and many more humongous vehicles! This is a great fundraiser for the Harbor House Children's Center Scholarship fund and the Westside Food Pantry.

 

Downeast Spiritual Life Conference: Don’t miss out! It’s time to register for the Second Annual Downeast Spiritual Life Conference which will be on August 23 & 24. This year’s conference is conveniently being held at The Atlantic Oceanside in Bar Harbor and the theme is Spirituality in Our Times: Embracing Diversity, Creating Community. What better subject is there in view of recent events in our country? The conference is sponsored by St. Francis by the Sea in Blue Hill but because it is being held in our backyard, we will have a front row seat to participate! Holy Land Tour in November: Good News! The Reverend Vesta Kowalski has agreed to accompany the travelers as Chaplain! This group is trying to organize a trip to Jerusalem, Galilee, and the Rose City of Petra, Jordan this coming November. The trip is being arranged through Jerusalem Tours, International. MDI Hospital Joins Jamie Oliver’s International Food Revolution

MDI Hospital is thrilled to announce our first ever Food Revolution Day event on Friday, May 17^th with a Cooking Class & Open House at the Straus Center in Southwest Harbor. Our event kicks off our new childhood obesity prevention program designed to keep all of our island's children happy, engaged and healthy. Local chef Sam Keene will be donating his time to teach children and adults of all skill levels how to prepare a simple, delicious meal.

At MDI Hospital, the health and well being of our community is our primary concern. We are always looking for new ways to reach our community and interact in an inspiring and empowering way. Food Revolution Day is the perfect fit for us. We are honored to join Jaime Oliver’s well organized, timely campaign to inspire communities everywhere to take the time to create delicious, simple food from scratch—enjoy it with one another— and to share food knowledge and skills in schools, the workplace and at home.

Our Food Revolution Day Cooking Class & Open House will be held at the Straus Center adjacent to the Community Health Center in SW Harbor, ME. The event begins at 3 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. There will be healthy snacks to try, recipes to bring home and activities for all ages!
