Lectionary Readings:  Psalm 139:1-5, 12-17; 1 Samuel 3:1-10; 1 Corinthians 6:12-20; John 1:43-51.

 

We welcome Paul Dickson Sunday as our new Music Director & Organist.

 

Sunday School: Sundays during the 10:00 service on Sunday in the undercroft, with the Godly Play lessons.

Annual Meeting: Sunday, January 18 at 11:15 a.m. following the service. Reports are due in the office by January 8th.

Weekly Study of the Gospel of Mark will resume on Wednesday evening, January 14th at 6:00. Compline to follow.

 

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: January 18-25. The theme for 2009 is “That they may become one in your hand”. Use the Daily Scripture and Prayer Guide (www.geii.org) to join with Christians around the world praying “that all may be one... that the world may believe” (John 17:21). Plan to join with members of other Christian churches and communities in our area for the special observance on Sunday, January 18, 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Manset. Michael Shook will be one of the readers.

 

Trinity Institute 39th National Theological Conference: January 21-23; Radical Abundance: A Theology of Sustainability. Schedule: Wednesday – Evensong session begins at 6:00 p.m.; gather in the parish hall and watch the opening conference Eucharist at 7:00 p.m. Thursday – Sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00. You can move beyond the pain of divorce: Come to an 8 week program of caring and confidential support with others also experiencing the pain of a lost marriage.  A “Divorce & Beyond” group will be meeting at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, 29 Mt. Saturday, January 24th, Learn How to Find Energy Leaks and Fix Them! Maine Interfaith Power and Light will host this free workshop at St. John’s Church, 224 French Street in Bangor from 9:00 am to 12:30.  You can get more information online at www.meipl.org and you can register by email to Jessica@meipl.org or call her at 721-0444.

 

You are invited to a South of the Border Winter Fiesta, Hulls Cove Schoolhouse (on Rte 3), Saturday, January 24, from 5:30 to 8 pm. Enjoy an assortment of Latin American coffees, non-alcoholic Sangrias, hot mulled cider, and South of the Border hors doevres. Digital Orchestra performance by Kaveh Haghkerdar; dance instruction provided by Genes Place to Dance. Ample parking across the street at Church of Our Father. Admission $15 per person.  Proceeds will support the World Missions programs of the Church of Our Father.Come out and dance,  eat, and be merry!

 

Winter Fun! Sponsored by St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, Saturday, January 31st at 1 p.m. for youth and families. Weather permitting: sledding at the Black House and skating at the Searchfield Home (519 Mariaville Road). If weather is not good for either, the Searchfields have a ping-pong table and pool table with a lot of other inside games. The event will end with a Pasta Feed!
