The Iraq War and Health Care is the topic of a public program, to be presented by Adam Good of the Maine People’s Alliance on June 30 at 7 pm at Ellsworth City Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend. As the tragedy of the direct human cost of the war in Iraq continues, the hidden cost to the health and well-being of ordinary Americans is less well known. According to the Maine People’s Alliance, “Maine’s share of funding of the Iraq war through 2007 – $1.2 billion – could provide health care to 309,051 uninsured children, 14 times over the number of uninsured children in Maine. For the cost of the tax cuts for the wealthiest one percent, 92,115 Maine’s children could have had access to health care through June of 2007.”  This June 30 program will expand on these ideas and discuss citizen action for change. Maine People’s Alliance is a nonprofit citizen action organization whose purpose is to involve citizens in our democracy and to strengthen individual participation in decision-making processes that affect our lives.  Leadership development is one of MPA’s highest priorities, including helping citizens to educate and organize themselves around important issues for positive change.  MPA is committed to citizen involvement and each year does door-to-door field education throughout Maine.  MPA members plan to canvass Ellsworth around June 30.  For more information, see www.mainepeoplesalliance.org or phone 667-5863.

Church of Our Father is planning a Mission trip to do rebuilding in the Gulf area for Katrina relief during the first 3 weeks of November.  The group will go to Camp Coast Care, a joint Episcopal-Lutheran endeavor just outside Gulfport, MS.  Please call Brad Berry at 667-5087 or e-mail him at bayberry2@midmaine.com if you are interested or would like more information. You do not have to commit to the entire 3 weeks.

Church office hours next week: Monday, Tuesday and Saturday from 8:30 to 2:30.
