Epiphany Pageant: Sunday, January 4th at 10:00 a.m. Rehearsal at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

 

Sunday School: Sundays during the 10:00 service on Sunday in the undercroft, with the Godly Play lessons.

Feast of the Epiphany: Tuesday, January 6 at 6:00 p.m., Evensong at St. John in Southwest Harbor. Rehearsal at 5:30 p.m. on the 6th.

 

Annual Meeting: Sunday, January 18 at 11:15 a.m. following the service. Reports are due in the office by January 8th. Call Joan (244-3227) if you would be willing to coordinate lunch.

Food Pantry Gift Cards: For every $10 donation to the Food Pantry, you are entitled to an attractive gift card suitable for Christmas giving, hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, etc. The cards are available on Sunday mornings, in the office and at the craft fair on November 29th. Give a gift that helps our island neighbors through this really tough winter.

The Southwest Harbor Library is collecting food for the pantry throughout the month of December.

The Community Nativity will be in our church yard during Advent. On December 19-20 the wooden figures will be replaced with people from the community.

Advent Organ Concert: Friday, December 12, 12:15 p.m. at St. Saviour's.  Come for a time of quiet during this busy season.  Julia Morris-Myers, organ, and Bill Myers, cello.  Donations optional.  Refreshments follow.

 

An Advent Service for those in Grief on Friday, December 12th at 5:00 PM at St. Saviour’s Church (parish library) in Bar Harbor. Please come to remember those who have died and to pray for your own needs and those of others. Eucharist will be celebrated with the special intention of remembering and honoring the lives of children who have predeceased their parents, and of friends, siblings and loved ones. You are invited to be yourself, embracing whatever emptiness, grief and hope that you find along your way. The wonder of child birth, family and child-like joy, so emphasized during the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, touches a raw spot in so many of us. There is more to our story. Come and share in it. All are welcome.

The Essentials Pantry desperately needs your donation of diapers (any size) or money to purchase them--the demand is very high, but so is the cost.  If you bring diapers, Ted & Joan will deliver them.  Or you may send a check, payable to St. Elizabeth's Essentials Pantry, to Diocese of Maine, 143 State Street, Portland ME 04101 (mark Essentials Pantry on envelope.)  Thanks!

 

Christmas Fair: Friday, December 5, 10:00–2:00, at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church. There will be a luncheon, baked goods, craft items and plants, attic treasures, toys and books, a raffle, and wreaths.

 

The Acadia Choral Society will present their holiday concerts at St. Saviour’s on Saturday, December 6 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, December 7 at 3:00 pm.  One of the featured works this year is Vaughan-Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” with Geoffrey Knowles as soloist.  Tickets are available at St. Saviour’s office.

Bar Harbor Congregational Church is looking for monetary donations so they can purchase turkeys for Thanksgiving dinners that will be distributed to the Westside Food Pantry. Checks can be made to Bar Harbor UCC and mailed to 29 Mt. Desert Street, Bar Harbor ME 04609.

Taize Ecumenical Prayer Service: Sunday November 23rd at 5:00 p.m. at Somesville Union Meeting House, Somesville, Maine. The Acadia Taizé Community will hold an evening service of song, scripture and silence in the beloved tradition of Taizé, an ecumenical monastic community in France whose focus is cultivating world peace through prayer.  Chant, a scripture reading, and meditative silence amid candle light are central to Taizé prayer. Bring a friend or come alone; your prayerful presence is always welcome. Come celebrate the true spirit of gratitude and the beginning of this blessed holiday season. Sunday Services, November 16th: 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist at St. John’s in Southwest Harbor.  Vesta Kowalski will be our celebrant and preacher, while Fr. Richard is taking part in the Credo program.

 

Piano Concert: Following the 10:00 a.m. service, we will be treated to a ten to fifteen minute piano recital by Stephen Sampson. A professional pianist, he has played many times for Episcopal church services, and will play for us selections from J.S. Bach.  Stephen lives in Town Hill and works at Jackson Lab.  Thanks to Bill Voorhies for inviting him to play.
