Meditation on Thursdays at 4:15 at St. John’s. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and “prayer of the heart,” an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen.

The YWCA is holding a public Stand Against Racism in Bar Harbor on Thursday, April 28th to take a stand against racism in any form.  As part of a national movement we join our sister YWCAs to come together for one day to say that racism is not acceptable.  We are trying to get the community involved and raise awareness on an issue that affects many.   This is a very low key affair and is a great introduction to standing up for what is right for all.  We will be meeting at the Village Green at 3:30 after school gets out to hopefully encourage more participation from the schools and the community. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 288-5008 or email me at abby@ywcamdi.org.

This is a new location at the Mall on Route 1.  We receive one-half of the proceeds from the event and to date have received about $2,000 each year. Again, we will be responsible for collecting admission and directing cars to the parking area.  We need to staff these tasks with four volunteers in two shifts: 9 AM-12 and 12-3 PM.  Please let me know if you can be part of this effort and help us collect much needed replenishments of our Pantry Larder (funds) and be part of this delightful family event. SUNDAY FORUM – 10:15 a.m. – April 17

What is Maine Doing about the Refugee Crisis?
On Sunday, April 17, Tarlan Ahmadov, Program Director for Refugee and Immigration Services/Language Partners at Catholic Charities Maine, will talk to us about his work and our concerns about refugee issues. Tarlan has worked with Catholic Charities since 2004. Prior to his immigration to the USA, he worked in the education field in Baku, Azerbaijan, and later joined the non-profit sector, combined with a consulting business to the Consulate of Azerbaijan in Tehran, Iran. He was involved in various capacities with local and international NGOs, such as IFES (providing training to the newly established municipalities in Azerbaijan), and Social Research Center (by screening refugees from Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq). Tarlan graduated from the Baku State University with a Masters in History and Social Sciences. He speaks several languages, and loves to travel: during the last two decades, he has visited over 40 countries for business, training, and teaching purposes. His presentation will give us a chance to learn about his work, and ask our questions about Maine's response to the refugee crisis. The forum will begin at 10:15 a.m. Please feel free to invite friends from the larger community to join us.
