The Rev. Jonathan Appleyard, rector of St. Saviour’s Parish in Bar Harbor, will be in the church office at St. John’s this Thursday from 1:00-4:00. At 2:00 he will offer a Bible study based on the lectionary. Everyone is welcome.

 

The St. John Singers will meet on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to join this group which chooses and then practices the hymns sung on Sunday mornings.

 

Farmer’s Market – will be in St. John’s parking lot from 9:00-1:00 each Friday until mid-October.

 

Island Connections is in dire need of volunteer drivers. The demand for rides for medical appointments, errands, shopping for food, etc. has increased by 37% over the past year.  They are in need of help to keep up with the demand.  If you can help, even once a week, please call Island Connections at 288-4457. Gas cards are available if you are willing to make a trip off island.

 

Come enjoy “Flash in the Pans” on the Ellsworth Park waterfront for a concert benefiting Everybody Eats on Labor Day, Monday, September 6th at 7:30 pm. Everybody Eats is an outreach program providing a delicious, healthy, free meal for everyone who comes in the door at St. Dunstan’s Church 134 State Street in Ellsworth every Monday from 3-6 p.m.


MDI+ Episcopal Churches Events

Tuesday, September 14th, 10-12 noon, Cynthia Bourgeault will present a program introducing the main themes of her new book The Meaning of Mary Magdalene: Discovering the Woman at the Heart of Christianity. A book signing will follow the program which is at St. Francis-by-the-Sea in Blue Hill.

 

Free Ice Cream Socials, hosted by St. Mary & St. Jude Church in front of the firehouse in Northeast Harbor, every Thursday through the summer from 4-5 pm. Donations are welcome to help support the Bar Harbor Food Pantry.

Cursillo Weekend: As many of you know, during the weekend of September 9 through 12, the 37th ME Ep Cursillo Weekend -- "Make me an instrument of your peace" -- will be held at Sky-Hy Conference Center in Topsham.  One of the ways we all can support Christ's work in this world is by sending prayers and greetings to the members of this group to encourage them on their Christian walk. Mail them to the address below.  Please keep us in your daily prayers.

The final Summer Music Concert at St. Savior’s will be this Friday, August 27th, from 12:15-1:00 pm. given by Julia Morris-Myers, Organist and Choirmaster at St. Saviour’s.

The concert will be followed by refreshments and tours of the historic building.  Admission is by donation.

The Rev. Jonathan Appleyard, rector of St. Saviour’s Parish in Bar Harbor, will NOT be at St. John’s this Thursday. He is on vacation but will be back next week on Thursday, August 26th when he will continue his Bible study (at 2:00) based on the lectionary. Everyone is welcome.

 

The Vestry will meet on Thursday, August 19th at 6:30 p.m.

We give thanks for the life of June Cawley who died August 14th. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s on Saturday, August 21st, at 3:00 p.m. Please keep Bob and the rest of the family members in your prayers.

 

We also give thanks for the life of Priscilla Trafton, who died today. When we have information about her service, we will send it to you.

The Rev. Jonathan Appleyard, rector of St. Saviour’s Parish in Bar Harbor, will be at St. John’s in Southwest Harbor weekly, on Thursdays from 1 – 4 pm. His plan is to be available in the office for administration. At 2 pm he invites anyone who is interested to join in a lectionary based Bible study. You will read, listen and reflect on the readings that will be used at Sunday worship ten days from the day we meet.

 

Kid’s Day at the Seal Cove Auto Museum, Wednesday, August 11th, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Kids to age 12 and under are FREE. Sing Happy 100th Birthday to the Museum's 1910 Stoddard Dayton, enjoy Cake, car rides in a 1927 Model T Ford, croquet on the lawn and Model T toy races. All kids get a Museum grab bag with stickers and prizes. Dress Up in period clothing with photo taking. See the Director's collection of 1/18 scale model cars. Popcorn free all day from our popcorn wagon. Watch silent movies throughout the day.

All Day Lobster Bake Fundraiser - Friday, August 13 - Noon – 6 p.m. Malvern Belmont Estates, Bar Harbor. The Healthy Life Café & Meals on Wheels program is happy to announce another lobster eating event.  Full lobster dinners include 1¼ lobster, corn, potato and blueberry cake all for $12.00.  Single lobsters are available at $6.50/live or $7.50 cooked.  Eat in or take out.  Seating will be available inside and outside. Divine Luncheon Thank you - Mary Mitchell, Jean Rohrer, and Dianne Mc Mullan would like to thank everyone for making the Second Annual Divine Luncheon on the Lawn a fun and successful event. Over $1300 was raised to support the efforts of the Westside Food Pantry. Special thanks to author Katie B. Moose for her book signing and tasting. The 9th Annual Carol Dyer Memorial Luminaria Evening will be held on Saturday, August 7 from 7 – 10 pm on the Bar Harbor Village Green. The evening, which benefits the American Cancer Society, is a celebration of those whose lives have been touched by cancer. The event begins with the lining of the walkways of the Village Green with luminary candles honoring and memorializing loved ones who have had cancer. Music is provided throughout the evening by local musicians Chuck Donnelly and Emma Walsh.  The names of all those  represented by luminaries are read throughout the evening.
