Ecumenical Tenebrae Service: Monday, April 6th, 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellsworth. This ancient prayer of Tenebrae, which has developed over the centuries, involves the singing of psalms and the reading of scriptures, interspersed with silence. Some unusual features are the extinguishing of one candle after each reading, leaving the church in darkness after the last reading, followed by the "strepidus" which recalls the earthquake at Christ's death and the return of a single candle for the close of the prayer. All are welcome for this quiet and meditative beginning to Holy Week.

Financial Planning Seminar: MDI Hospital invites you to this free seminar on Wednesday, April 8th, 3-5 p.m., conference room at MDI Hospital. Mr. Chadbourne Smith, Attorney at Law, will provide information and answer your questions regarding wills, trusts, planned giving and healthcare directives. Call Brenda Sprague at 288-5082, ext. 1198 if you would like to attend.

The Living Last Supper, a chancel drama, will be performed by the men of the Church of Our Father on Wednesday, April 8th at 7:00 pm, at the church in Hulls Cove.  Everyone in the community is invited.  There is no admission charge.

The Green & Lean Discussion Series: Sustainable and frugal methods for living well.

Co-sponsored by St. John’s Episcopal Church, ROOTs, and the Sierra Club. As a society we faced the twin challenges of addressing unprecedented environmental problems (climate change, species extinction, air & water pollution) and coping with extremely uncertain financial times. Our purpose is to provide usable and up-to-date information to local residents and island visitors that will enable them to reduce their consumption of resources, increase their understanding of energy saving technology and save money. Experts on appropriate topics will be invited to speak and lead discussions on how to implement the techniques and ideas presented. Monthly meetings will start on Wednesday, April 22nd, 7:00-8:30 p.m. Daryl DeJoy from Penopscot Solar will be the first speaker on Energy Conservation & Home Solar Power. For more info contact Erika Shriner, 244-3536, jerika@roadrunner.com
