St. Saviour:

Requiem performance: Sunday, March 24, at 3:00 pm the St. Saviour’s Festival Choir will present Bob Chilcott’s Requiem. This beautiful new work was premiered in 2010 to great acclaim. This performance, offered at the beginning of Holy Week, will be accompanied by a small orchestra and organ. Solos in the Requiem will be performed by Jay Emlen, tenor and Marsha Lyons, soprano. The program will begin with a prelude for oboe and organ and will also include solos by Geoffrey Knowles and Paul Bartels. The choir is directed by Julia Morris-Myers, organist and choirmaster at St. Saviour’s.

The music of Bob Chilcott, an Englishman and former member of The King’s Singers, speaks to many on a deeply emotional level.  The Requiem was jointly commissioned by the Oxford Bach Choir and Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Unlike traditional “fire and brimstone” requiems, it leaves the listener with a feeling of hope and piece, similar to the sacred music of Gabriel FaurĂ© and John Rutter.

There is no admission charge for the concert; however donations to St. Saviour’s Friends of Music will be gratefully received.  The church, located at 41 Mt. Desert St. in Bar Harbor, is handicap-accessible.  For more information please refer to the website at www.stsaviours.me.
