At St. John's

 

Quietside Festival is coming up on July 14. Start thinking about items for the Basket Raffle, Silent Auction, Pies/Cookies; We need help with the Lemonade, Baskets, Silent Auction and Pie stands. If you wish to donate and/or help, let Michele know. A basket sign-up sheet with some theme suggestions is available in the undercroft. Baskets and Silent Auction items may be brought to the church office any time. Please make sure your names are on the baskets.
 
March in the Flamingo Parade with the St. John Samba Band on Saturday July 14.  No experience necessary. Drums, costumes and instruction provided! Practice is 3:30-4:30 pm every Thursday at St. John's.

Confirmation Class will be held on Tuesdays, starting July 10th, 2:30-3:30 in the Common Room. We will be exploring the book Episcopal Questions, Episcopal Answers, Exploring Christian Faith. All are invited to join in the conversation. See Mother Kathleen for more information.

Meditation on Tuesdays at 4:00 at St. John's. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and "prayer of the heart," an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen.

Confidential Prayer Chain: Unlike our published prayer lists, prayer requests that come into the Prayer Chain remain private to the prayer chain itself, which will pray devotedly for one week unless an updated request is made. If you'd like to know more about this or our Pastoral Care Team, please contact our office administrators or Mother Kathleen.
 

St. Saviour:

Four Hand Piano Concert to Benefit MDI Search and Rescue: Sunday, July 1 at 7:00 PM, Ann Sears and Guy Urban will present duet and solo piano works by Schubert, Liszt, Brahms, Stewart, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin at St. Saviour's Episcopal Church, The concert is free, but donations will benefit MDI Search and Rescue.  The suggested donation is $20.

 

Church of Our Father:

Our excellent Thrift Shop will open Saturday, June 23! Hours will be Saturdays from 9-12 and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6 pm.

 
St. Mary & St. Jude:

Puerto Rico Service Project – The Parish of St. Mary and St. Jude is making plans to lead an island-wide service trip to Puerto Rico to assist with Hurricane Maria recovery. The trip will include people of all ages and skill levels, and summer/shoulder parishioners are welcome to travel from home and join the team in Puerto Rico. The trip will take place next Fall/Winter, 2018/19. If you are interested in helping to plan and organize the project, please call or email Jane Cornman at ssmaryjudemdi@gmail.com
 

 

 

Community:

The Harbor House and the Southwest Harbor & Tremont Chamber of Commerce are putting together a Chowder Competition for July 15th, during Flamingo Festival. And we are looking for some volunteers to help with serving, selling tickets, selling baked goods, set up and clean up, and tallying the votes. If you are available from 10AM to about 2:30 on July 15th, please consider joining us for this fun new event!  It will take place under the big tent on the Pemetic School Lawn, after the Flamingo 4-Miler and during the Flamingo Craft Fair. If you would like to sign up to volunteer, please contact Cynthia Crow at 207-244-9264 or

The Alcyon Center is a place of contemplation and peace, offering a variety of programs including quiet days, a gathering of women to discuss various topics through poetry, personal experiences (Soul Friends), a monthly quiet day and a weekly study of the Gospel for the coming Sunday. At St. John's

 

St. Andrew & St. John will hold their annual meeting this Sunday, June 24 following the 10:00 service. There will be election of new officers: Junior Warden, Clerk, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, 2 Vestry members, 2 convention delegates (who will also attend Bishop Election Convention in February 2019), and 2 alternate delegates. Committee and financial reports from 2017 will be addressed.

Church of Our Father summer member Karin Maag will inform and delight us with another of her historical presentations (with singing!) on Friday, June 22, at 3:30 PM in the parish hall (please note time!). We will learn about the Scottish Reformer John Knox and the origins of the Presbyterian Church - did you know that nine US Presidents were Presbyterian? There will be Scottish-themed refreshments as well. Come join the fun and the learning!
