Mount Desert Organ Festival August 20 - August 22nd

Saint Andrew & Saint John Episcopal Church Southwest Harbor (and Greta - our 1885 Hook & Hasting Tracker Organ) will be privileged to host the first two sessions of a Mount Desert Organ Festival.


    Wednesday evening, the 20th, at 7p.m, Kevin Birch, Director of Music at St. John's Catholic Church in Bangor will present an illustrated lecture on "Hook Organs in the State of Maine", followed by a short recital on Greta, our fabulous Hook organ.

Thursday evening, the 21st, again at 7 p.m., Douglas Beck, Organist-Choirmaster, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Old Town, Alexandria, VA returns to St. John for a full recital. Works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Pietro A. Yon, Jean Langlais, Ned Rorem, Denis Bèdard & Joel Martinson will be featured.


    Friday 12:15, the 22nd, the festival will conclude at St. Saviour's Parish, in Bar Harbor, with Music Director Julia Morris-Myers performing on their Visser-Rowland organ. This will be the fourth, and concluding recital of St. Saviour’s August Friday noon recital series.
