At St. John's

 

Meditation on Tuesdays at 4:00 at St. John's. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and "prayer of the heart," an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen.

 

Clean Up Day at St. Andrew: Saturday, June 2.

 

Yard Sale — Friday and Saturday, June 8 & 9, 8:00 - 3:00, at St. Andrew. As you delve into your spring cleaning, please remember that we are seeking treasures for the 5th annual Yard Sale at St. Andrew's.  The basement door is open so feel free to drop off your goodies when the spirit moves you.  Please NO books, clothing, or electronics. If you would like to join the fun, please let Barbara Campbell or Jayne Ashworth know.  There are opportunities to help set up for the sale as well as work on the sale days.

 

Services at St. Andrew by-the-Lake — Sundays, June 17 through October 7.

 

Pastoral Care RetreatPraying in Paint—on Saturday, May 26th 10-3pm at the YWCA in Bar Harbor. The Reverend Susan Berry Taylor, working priest and artist, will be our facilitator. She will lead us in exploring our faith and spirituality though color, paint, and creative expression—no experience needed! Please bring a bag lunch—drinks and snacks will be provided.

For all interested in General Convention

The Provincial Leadership Conference is offering a series of webinars as we move toward General Convention in July 2018. Members from Interim Bodies and task groups as well as those knowledgeable on the issues will present their resolutions in the Blue Book. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions. Details for each webinar will be sent closer to the time of the webinar. Stay tuned.

Diocesan Adult Retreat at Bishopswood - June 15-17
Join us for a weekend on beautiful Lake Megunticook near Camden Maine. The annual diocesan retreat is an opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life and be refreshed. This year, we'll use Celtic and Ignatian resources to help us connect with Christ in nature, scripture, community and the depths of our hearts. We'll seek to deepen our awareness of Jesus and open ourselves in generosity and compassion.

Camp will open for recreation at 3PM Friday; Dinner will be at 6PM; Program begins at 7PM.  The Retreat ends Sunday before lunch.

 

Retreat cost (including 2 nights lodging, meals): For a shared cabin clustered around the bathhouse: $95.  A few spaces are available in buildings with shared bathrooms: $125.   For those who wish to make their own lodging arrangements: $65.  Scholarships for Sunday school teachers and youth event volunteers, and financial aid, are available. MDI Episcopal Churches:

Confidential Prayer Chain: Unlike our published prayer lists, prayer requests that come into the Prayer Chain remain private to the prayer chain itself, which will pray devotedly for one week unless an updated request is made. If you'd like to know more about this or our Pastoral Care Team, please contact our office administrators or Mother Kathleen.
 

St. Saviour:

Harmonie Universelle performs Baroque chamber-music at St. Saviour's on Monday, May 28th at 4:00 pm.  Baroque violinist Heidi Powell will be joined by harpsichordist Dr. Daniel Pyle and Baroque cellist Max Treitler. The program will include sonatas for violin and continuo by Corelli and Albinoni, as well as Bach's Sonata in G for violin and harpsichord, and works for harpsichord and for unaccompanied violin. Admission to the concert is free but donations are requested. St. Saviour's is handicap accessible.

Men's Group: Dinner and meeting on Monday, May 21 at 6:00 p.m.  Andrew McMullan will speak about his career as a pilot, most recently on commercial flights.

St. Mary & St. Jude:

Memorial Day Weekend Celebration:
·     Friday, May 25, 6 pm - Join the Rector and members of the Vestry for a casual cocktail hour at the Tan Turtle Tavern. Come enjoy a cash bar, appetizers, and great conversation with old friends!
·     Sunday, May 27, 9 am - Worship at St. Mary's Chapel, followed by a celebratory brunch in the newly renovated Parish Hall
 

Puerto Rico Service Project – The Parish of St. Mary and St. Jude is making plans to lead an island-wide service trip to Puerto Rico to assist with Hurricane Maria recovery. The trip will include people of all ages and skill levels, and summer/shoulder parishioners are welcome to travel from home and join the team in Puerto Rico. The trip will take place next Fall/Winter, 2018/19. If you are interested in helping to plan and organize the project, please call or email Jane Cornman at ssmaryjudemdi@gmail.com
 

 


Community:

The Harbor House and the Southwest Harbor & Tremont Chamber of Commerce are putting together a Chowder Competition for July 15th, during Flamingo Festival. And we are looking for some volunteers to help with serving, selling tickets, selling baked goods, set up and clean up, and tallying the votes. If you are available from 10AM to about 2:30 on July 15th, please consider joining us for this fun new event!  It will take place under the big tent on the Pemetic School Lawn, after the Flamingo 4-Miler and during the Flamingo Craft Fair. The Alcyon Center is a place of contemplation and peace, offering a variety of programs including quiet days, a gathering of women to discuss various topics through poetry, personal experiences (Soul Friends), a monthly quiet day and a weekly study of the Gospel for the coming Sunday.
