Meditation on Tuesdays at 4:00 at St. John's. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and "prayer of the heart," an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen.

If you'd like to know more about this or our Pastoral Care Team, please contact our office administrators or Mother Kathleen.

Community:

There will be a two day food packaging event at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 175 Downeast Highway in Ellsworth on Friday, January 19 (noon to 6:00) and Saturday, January 20 (9:00-2:00).  This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to come together and package healthy non-perishable meals that are distributed to food pantries in Washington and Hancock Counties (including the Westside Food Pantry). A quarter pays for one serving; $1.50 for a package that feeds 6 people. Our goal is at least 40,000 meals ($10,000).

Donations are needed plus lots of volunteers for the 19th and 20th!  Our goal is at least 4 assembly lines working - which is 40-50 people.  Some people work the whole day; some work for an hour or two.  There are jobs for heavy lifters and for those who need to sit. We are accepting donations until the end of the day on January 20.  Checks can be made payable to St. Andrew Lutheran Church and mailed to:  P. O. Box 145 Ellsworth, ME  04605.  For more information 667-7641 or check our website:  standrewme.org

Coffee's On! The first and third Tuesday of the month (February 6 and 20), 9:30-11:30. Senior Coffee House is being held at the MDI YWCA, 36 Mt. Desert Street, Bar Harbor. Bring a friend and enjoy coffee, tea, snacks, and simply catching up with friends while making some new ones. If you need transportation, please call Doreen Willett with Island Connections at 288-4457.

Westside Food Pantry:

THE NEXT FOOD PANTRY RECITAL IS COMING UP
Tuesday, January 23, 6:00 p.m.
at St. John the Divine in Southwest Harbor

Peter Broderick, an internationally known musician, will perform pieces by Arthur Russell and others. Some of you know long-time SWH resident, Kate Russell Henry.  Kate's brother, Arthur Russell, was a composer and musician who died of AIDS in 1990.
Arthur's partner, Tom Lee, Kate, and other members of Arthur's family invited Peter Broderick to perform for our Food Pantry.  Please Google Peter Broderick to hear some of his music.
As always, the recitals are an opportunity to experience a variety of musical performances in our beautiful sanctuary.  We hope to raise money and hope to raise awareness of the work of the Westside Food Pantry.  The last food pantry concert, The Kelly Farm Band, raised over $600!  Let's see if we can top that and make a dent in the deficit we are experiencing. Our suggested donation is $10--ALL donations go directly to help our neighbors.
Once again, thanks to Dianne McMullan for hosting the reception, to Michael Shook, for putting up the sign advertising the recital, to Michele Daley for help with the publicity, and to all of you for supporting the recital series.

The Pantry will be open on Sunday, January 21 (12:00-1:00 p.m.) at the Harbor House in Southwest Harbor.
