St. John:

Westside Food Pantry Recital Series continues celebrating the 25th year of our Westside Food Pantry with the APRIL 23rd performance by TIMBERED LAKE—Diana Newman and Crow Suncloud.   The Saturday evening performance begins at 6:30 and will run for one hour. A reception hosted by Dianne McMullan will follow in the undercroft.  Suggested donation is $10 and ALL proceeds will go to our food pantry. FMI contact: Susan Buell, 244-8061.

SUNDAY FORUM – 10:15 a.m. – April 24 -- A Brief Look at Islam. Kathleen will provide a short introduction to some of the basics of Islam, drawing on a book that could form the basis for continuing study if there is interest in pursuing the topic.

Meditation on Thursdays at 4:15 at St. John’s. Please join us for 30 minutes of shared silence and “prayer of the heart,” an ancient meditative practice of the Christian tradition. All are welcome! We meditate sitting on chairs, though if you prefer to sit on the floor, feel free to bring a mat or cushion. If you are new to meditation, have questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Mother Kathleen.

Yard Sale 2016: Friday and Saturday, June 10-11. As you start your spring cleaning, remember we are seeking treasures for the 3rd annual Yard Sale at St. Andrew’s. Once again, we are going to have the “Make an Offer” method of pricing which was really successful last year. If you do want your donated items to be priced (special furniture and such), just let us know. The basement door to St. Andrew’s is open so you are welcome to drop off the goodies any time. Please no books, clothing or electronics. If you want to join the fun, we will need volunteers to help set up as well as work the days of the sale. It is a perfect chance to get an early bird peek at the quality merchandise and visit with your friends. Contact Jayne Ashworth (244-5985) or Barbara Campbell (244-9087).

Touch A Truck: One of the major fund-raisers benefiting the Westside Food Pantry is the Touch-a-Truck event, this year to be held at T. J. Maxx in Ellsworth on Saturday, May 14.

This is a new location at the Mall on Route 1.  We receive one-half of the proceeds from the event and to date have received about $2,000 each year. Again, we will be responsible for collecting admission and directing cars to the parking area.  We need to staff these tasks with four volunteers in two shifts: 9 AM-12 and 12-3 PM.  Please let me know if you can be part of this effort and help us collect much needed replenishments of our Pantry Larder (funds) and be part of this delightful family event. Once again, the date is SATURDAY, MAY 14. Please indicate your shift preference. Thank you very much, Dean Henry (664-8615)
