Who is my neighbor, anyway? A practice group for listening and speaking of faith in Christian traditions on MDI. Join us in St. Saviour's Library for an opening conversation, September 28 at 6:30pm. Buying and reading (or starting to read) "Transforming Evangelism," is helpful but not required. Contact Liz Graves at lizgraves@gmail.com for more information.

St. Mary’s and St. Jude’s:

Contemplative Evening Prayer (with 20 minutes of silence) resumes at 5:30PM on September 28th, moving back to Saint Mary’s Chapel. This midweek offering provides a wonderful opportunity to slow down, breathe, and be restored in your relationship with Christ, each other, and the world. Join us at any time.

Island Connections – Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver meals and groceries, to drive neighbors to healthcare appointments, and to shopping and community centers. As MDI's population ages Island Connections is getting more requests than ever. Often it’s just a short drive to a healthcare appointment or grocery store and back.  Island Connections match neighbors' requests with drivers' availability and geographic preferences. Call Mary Parker at 288-4457 for more information.

Feasting on Prayer – A retreat for women, November 4-6, Friday 7:00 p.m. to Sunday 1:00 p.m. at Living Water Spiritual Center in Winslow. Mary-Carol Griffin and Elaine Theriault, presenters. Prayer nourishes us sin our quest for God. This weekend offers a banquet of prayer practices. We will pray “all ways” – noticing God in all things, praying with scripture, centering prayer, body prayer, Taize worship and more. Cost is $185, registration deposit of $100. Due 10 business days before program. Booklets and registration forms are available from Elaine (244-9461). Come and taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8)

Listening Presence is a regional and ecumenical program of formation and education for lay people to become effective listeners for people who are sick, in crisis, at risk, lonely or underserved. The series will take place at St. Francis by-the-Sea in Blue Hill and starts Saturday, September 24 and continues on Wednesday evenings, until the ending retreat on November 11 and 12. Registration is required; call the Reverend Peg Thomas at 460-9373 for details and costs.

Prayer for the Community of St. Andrew & St. John

Gracious God, we offer thanks for our parish, for your inspiration, and for the spirit of ministry which is our heritage. We acknowledge your call to continue serving each other and the people in our community through open hearts and open doors. Guide us all, especially our Capital Campaign and Design & Construction Committees and Vestry, as we seek funding and plan expansion of the facilities, including accessibility for all at St. John. Inspire us to share faithfully the love that you have revealed to us through the ministry and sacrifice of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
