St. Mary's and St. Jude's:

Contemplative Prayer/Book Study is led by The Rev. Patricia Robertson, on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:15 pm at the Somesville Meeting House, Parish Hall. In addition to prayer, we will be learning about the contemplative perspective and life through reading interesting authors. This study/prayer group is open to anyone interested, so bring your friends.

A Christmas gift from St. Saviour's: Christmas Day, St. Saviour's is sponsoring two hours on WBACH: 104.7, 106.9 or 107.7 from 2-3pm and 6-7 pm. After the busy morning, tune in and enjoy some lovely Christmas relaxation and hear Jonathan Appleyard's wonderful message of the season in the name of all the Episcopal Churches on the Island!

St. John's:

The church office will be open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-2:30. If you have questions or need assistance at other times, please call Ted Fletcher (244-3115) or Ann Cox Halkett (288-5832).

African Bible Study: Father Appleyard will be out of commission due to knee surgery for a few weeks, so the group has elected to take a break until January 13th.

Prayer for the Community of St. Andrew & St. John

Gracious God, we offer thanks for our parish, for your inspiration, and for the spirit of ministry which is our heritage. We acknowledge your call to continue serving each other and the people in our community through open hearts and open doors. Guide us all, especially our Capital Campaign and Design & Construction Committees and Vestry, as we seek funding and plan expansion of the facilities, including accessibility for all at St. John. Inspire us to share faithfully the love that you have revealed to us through the ministry and sacrifice of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

First Coming
by Madeleine L'Engle

He did not wait till the world was ready,
till men and nations were at peace.
He came when the Heavens were unsteady,
and prisoners cried out for release.

He did not wait for the perfect time.
He came when the need was deep and great.
He dined with sinners in all their grime,
turned water into wine. He did not wait

till hearts were pure. In joy he came
to a tarnished world of sin and doubt.
To a world like ours, of anguished shame
he came, and his Light would not go out.

He came to a world which did not mesh,
to heal its tangles, shield its scorn.
In the mystery of the Word made Flesh
the Maker of the stars was born.

We cannot wait till the world is sane
to raise our songs with joyful voice,
for to share our grief, to touch our pain,
He came with Love: Rejoice! Rejoice!
