MDI/Ellsworth Episcopal Church Events

St. Mary's and St. Jude's:

Crèches Needed: Do you have a crèche set that you would be willing to loan to the parish for the weekend of December 11-13? We would like to have a display in the Parish Hall during the annual Christmas Festival in Northeast Harbor to help folks "remember the reason for the season." Sets from a variety of cultures and designs are most welcomed. If you are interested in contributing, please have your creche at the church no later than Wednesday, December 8. Those of you who live away are welcome to mail a set and we will see that it gets mailed back to you. All sets should have a card describing its origin, if possible and the name of the owner. Thanks!

Contemplative Prayer/Book Study to begin December 1,  5 to 6:15 pm at the Somesville Meeting House, Parish Hall. Beginning Wednesday, December 1, Contemplative Prayer will move from its current location at St. Mary's Chapel to the Parish Hall of the Somesville Meeting House in Somesville.  In addition to prayer, we will be learning about the contemplative perspective and life through reading interesting authors.  Conversation will begin at 5 pm and Contemplative Prayer (chanting, silence and prayer) will begin at 5:45 pm.  Those who show up for the first meeting will pick our readings!  This study/prayer group is open to anyone interested, so bring your friends.  Led by The Rev. Patricia Rome Robertson, Rector, Parish of St. Mary and St. Jude in Northeast and Seal Harbors.  All faiths welcome.

Church of Our Father:

Coats for Kids: Please donate coats for girls (sizes 2-8); adults and boys.

Christmas Fair: Saturday, November 20th, 9:00-2:00, Christmas decorations, wreaths, crafts and lunch (fish chowder and sandwiches).

Class on Paul and his writings in the New Testament. The class meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 pm in the parish hall.  The format includes a 30-minute lecture heard on audio CD by Luke Timothy Johnson, followed by a discussion. Weekly readings in the New Testament will be assigned. Call 288-4849 for more information.

St. Saviour's Parish:

The Rough Places Made Smooth, an Advent Day of Reflection, led by The Rev. Jonathan Appleyard and The Rev. John Van Siclen, from 10:00-3:00, Saturday, November 27 at Tidewater Way (1242 SR 129, South Bristol, or Saturday, December 4 at the Alcyon Center (1060 Tremont Road, Seal Cove). Lunch is provided. RSVP johnvs@tidewater.net by Monday, November 22nd. A $20 donation is suggested to help cover cost for food and facility.

Lessons and Carols for Advent and Christmas, December 19, 10:00 a.m.  This service, modeled on the one from King's College, will include 9 lessons with appropriate carols and several anthems. Julia Morris-Myers invites interested singers from the other parishes to join the St. Saviour's Choir for this service. To do this you will need to commit to and attend the 3 Thursday night rehearsals on December 2, 9 and 16 from 7-8 pm.  Please let her know if you plan to sing by December 1, 667-9529 or jmorrismyers@myfairpoint.net. This is a "Singers' Service," full of both treasured music from the past as well as music written as recent as last year.  It is a meaningful event and a blessed way to begin the week before Christmas.

St. Dunstan's:

Common Good Soup is offering free lunches and musical entertainment starting on Thursdays at noon.  Island Connections will try to provide rides for seniors and the disabled who'd like to attend.

Island Connections is in dire need of volunteer drivers. The demand for rides for medical appointments, errands, shopping for food, etc. has increased by 37% over the past year. They are in need of help to keep up with the demand. If you can help, even once a week, please call Island Connections at 288-4457. Gas cards are available if you are willing to make a trip off island.

Gracious God, we offer thanks for our parish, for your inspiration, and for the spirit of ministry which is our heritage. We acknowledge your call to continue serving each other and the people in our community through open hearts and open doors. Guide us all, especially our Capital Campaign and Design & Construction Committees and Vestry, as we seek funding and plan expansion of the facilities, including accessibility for all at St. John. Inspire us to share faithfully the love that you have revealed to us through the ministry and sacrifice of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
