EVENTS & NEWS

 

Sunday Services, December 14^th: Third Sunday in Advent, 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist at St. John’s in Southwest Harbor.  (One service only!)

 

Lectionary readings for December 14^th: Canticle 15; Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24; John 1:6-8, 19-28.

 

Sunday School: Sundays during the 10:00 service in the undercroft, with the Godly Play lessons.

Weekday Morning Eucharist: Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.

 

Vestry Meeting: Thursday, December 11^th (note change of date) at 6:00 p.m.

 

Design and Construction Committee: Wednesday, December 17^th at 5:00 p.m.

 

Advent Bible Study: Gospel of Mark, Wednesday, December 17^th at 6:00 followed by Compline with Fr. Richard.

 

Food Pantry Gift Cards: For every $10 donation to the Food Pantry, you are entitled to an attractive gift card suitable for Christmas giving, hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, etc. The cards are available on Sunday mornings, in the office and at the craft fair on November 29^th. Give a gift that helps our island neighbors through this really tough winter.

 

The Southwest Harbor Library is collecting food for the pantry throughout the month of December.
 

 

The Community Nativity will be in our church yard during Advent. On December 19-20 the wooden figures will be replaced with people from the community. If you would like to participate please call Chloe at 669-2801.

 

 

Christmas wreath donations are now being accepted. If you would like to donate in honor or in memory of a loved one, please sign up on the sheet in the back of the church; or you may mail your check marked Christmas Wreaths to the church office. Please consider honoring those you love at this wondrous time of year.

 

Advent Organ Concert: Friday, December 12, 12:15 p.m. at St. Saviour's.  Come for a time of quiet during this busy season.  Julia Morris-Myers, organ, and Bill Myers, cello.  Donations optional.  Refreshments follow.

 

An Advent Service for those in Grief on Friday, December 12th at 5:00 PM at St. Saviour’s Church (parish library) in Bar Harbor. Please come to remember those who have died and to pray for your own needs and those of others. Eucharist will be celebrated with the special intention of remembering and honoring the lives of children who have predeceased their parents, and of friends, siblings and loved ones. You are invited to be yourself, embracing whatever emptiness, grief and hope that you find along your way. The wonder of child birth, family and child-like joy, so emphasized during the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, touches a raw spot in so many of us. There is more to our story. Come and share in it. All are welcome.

 

Epiphany Pageant: Sunday, January 4^th.  The script is available for your review at the back of the church. If you would like to participate as an actor, reader or dresser, please sign up on the sheet or talk with Susan Buell (244-3124) or Floy Ervin (244-4195).

 

Annual Meeting: Sunday, January 18 at 11:15 a.m. following the service. Reports are due in the office by January 8^th.
